Nix and Sherman sign their letters of intent

Michigan State basketball has officially added a pair of players to its 2009 recruiting class. Centers Derrick Nix and Garrick Sherman both verbally committed earlier this year and today signed their letters of intent to become Spartans.

Derrick Nix is a 275-pound, 6′9″ big man out of Detroit, Michigan. Rivals rates him a three-star prospect, the #117 player in the nation, and the #16 center. Scout has Nix as a four-star player and the #8 center in the nation (#56 overall).

Garrick Sherman is a 220-pound, 6′10″ center out of Kenton, Ohio. Rivals rates him a four-star prospect, the #63 player in the nation, and the #8 center. Scout has Sherman as a four-star player and the #18 center in the nation.

Certainly, neither Nix nor Sherman will generate the kind of buzz that Delvon Roe did when he became part of Michigan State’s 2008 class.

However, with Idong Ibok and Marquise Gray in their final years, Nix and Sherman are sorely needed to add big man depth.
